Our Story

Seymour Home Away From Home is a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation designed to assist Airmen at Seymour Johnson AFB. It pairs Airmen with civilian Host Families to help alleviate the challenges of being alone or far from home, often for the first time. These community sponsors provide Airmen with a welcoming place to relax and offer opportunities to have fun away from the stress and day-to-day requirements of life on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Host Families offer personal interactions that can develop into strong, long-lasting bonds.

A Meaningful Impact

Host families participating in Seymour Johnson Air Force Base's Home Away From Home experience a multitude of benefits. Firstly, they have the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of Airmen by providing them with essential support, companionship, and a sense of belonging during their time away from home. This act of generosity allows Host Families to fulfill their patriotism by actively supporting those who serve their country. Additionally, hosting an Airman fosters a cultural exchange, enabling families to learn about the unique experiences and perspectives of military life while sharing their own traditions and values. On a personal level, hosting an Airman can lead to profound growth and fulfillment, challenging Host Families to expand their horizons, develop empathy, and form lasting bonds with individuals who may become lifelong friends. Overall, participating in Home Away From Home enriches the lives of Host Families by providing them with the opportunity to positively impact the military community while fostering personal growth and cultural understanding.
